Additional information for Summer Work & Travel

You will not be paid less than the minimum wage set by the U.S. Department of Labor. Salaries are based on job types and minimum wage for each state. The pay-rate ranges from $12-18 per hour.

The main purpose of the SWT program is to promote cultural exchange and not to earn money. To incentivize your labour, you are paid fairly to offset personal expenses while living in the U.S. In extension, the average work week covers 32-40 hours. Participants must be flexible and willing to work.

May’Fos is only responsible to provide one primary job. It is the participant responsibility to source a second job if needs be, which should be vetted by the sponsor before you begin working. Accepting a second job without prior approval may result in termination from the program by the sponsor.

Housing

Participants are responsible for their housing expense. Placements are offered with pre-arranged housing, and the amenities provided by the landlord are outlined in the housing agreement or job offer.

Depending on the landlord or employer, a housing deposit maybe required. Rent ranges from $90-150 USD per week and the deposit is usually similar. Please bear in mind, the unit is shared between 2-4 persons and pre-vetted by the sponsoring organization.

Medical Insurance

Insurance is mandatory and included in the program fee. This provides basic medical coverage for the period of 90 days. Any coverage beyond this point will attract an additional cost to the participant. Candidate sponsored by  United Studies  will be responsible to cover an additional $45 USD insurance fee, if their job offer exceed 90 days.  In order for the insurance to be activated, the participate MUST complete their arrival check-in.

Travel Expense

Students are responsible for all travel expense- this includes airfare and cab services. If the employer does not provide transportation from the airport upon arrival, it is your responsibility to find your way to the housing. Flight arrangements should be booked and email to the sponsor, agency, or employer 10 business days prior to departure.
